How it all started.
Welcome to chas Surfboards!
I started working on surfboards professionally as a 16 year old in 1979.
I worked my way up from ding repairs at the start, then through airbrushing, laminating, hot coating and sanding, all under the supervision and training of master craftsman Rich Harbour.
Along the way, I shaped a couple of boards for fun and a couple others to show Rich examples of designs I was interested in him interpreting with his expertise and craftsmanship. I must have showed promise as I spent all of 1986 training to shape under his guidance.
The creation of Chas Surfboards set in motion.
I shaped a successful quiver for myself for the North Shore that December. After 6 weeks on the Rock, I came back as Harbour Surfboard’s Head Shaper in mid February 1987. I held this position for 5 years, carving out nearly 2500 boards and fine tuning my skills along the way.
A unique set of circumstances set the creation of Chas Surfboards in motion. Financed by my golf pro, the first Chas Surfboards were produced in 1989.
Working with some the finest surfers in Orange County.
I’ve had the great pleasure of working with some of the finest surfers to ever come out of Orange County; Ryan Simmons, Mikey Reilly, Bobby Lockhart, Cole Houshmand, Kade Matson, Nolan Rapoza and Sage Guinaldo to name a few.
I’ve also been fortunate to work as a manufacturing partner with Channel Islands, DHD and Lost Surfboards; arguably 3 of the most Iconic and successful brands of the last 20 years.
This has all culminated to where I'm at today.
Nearly 15,000 units produced, all with great attention to the design elements, craftsmanship and the details that make the difference between good and great.
